This team has the responsibility for taking breakthroughs and delivering them to market at scale.

Client seeks a Materials Engineer with the ability to bring new materials to consumer products at scale.

We are looking for slightly impatient individuals willing to face down their fear of failure to accomplish bold things.

Responsibilities:

-In this role, you will work on test and characterization of materials in a laboratory setting.

-Use fundamental materials engineering principles to design test setups to measure properties (mechanical, optical, chemical, etc.) of materials.

-Prepare sample coupons for testing.

-Work cross-functionally with engineers to design innovative characterization techniques to advance the state of the art.

-Present findings to materials engineers and help interpret experimental results.

-Work with vendors to commission new equipment.

-Work with vendors to maintain and upgrade existing equipment.

Basic qualifications:

-Bachelor's degree in materials science, chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, mechanical engineering or a related field.

-Experience with some or all of the following characterization techniques:

-Mechanical testing: tension/compression, 4-point bend, lap shear, etc.

-Hardness/impact tests

-DMA, Rhinometry

-Microscopy

-Experience with preparing material sample coupons for testing

Preferred qualifications:

-Experience with some or all of the following characterization techniques:

-FTIR and UV-VIS spectroscopy

-SEM, EDS, XPS, XRF

-DSC, TGA, TMA, thermal diffusivity

-Experience with MATLAB and Python programming

New graduate or little work experience can apply. No PhDs.

Keywords to look for: Lab experience, measure/characterize/testing.

Purpose/Size of this team

The Applied Materials team develops, tests and selects materials and processes for all RL hardware. The team has 22 people on it right now and we are set to toughly double in 2022

Compelling Story & Candidate Value Proposition

-  You test cutting edge materials in a state-of-the-art lab.

- You work in a team with a sense of humor.

- You make an impact on the future of computing technology. (AR/VR is likely to replace smartphones.)

Top 3 must-have HARD skills:

Material characterization, especially mechanical testing. (Tension, compression, impact, lap shear, etc.)

Sample preparation skills (e.g. dog bones, adhesive samples, etc.)

Ability to generate simple lab reports

Good to have skills:

Experience with making high-quality technical presentations.

SEM, EDX, XRF, TGA, DMA, DSC, FTIR, optics (reflection, transmission, absorption, integrating spheres)

Years of experience required

New college grad is fine.
