ASMu Banquet Tickets for sale - NEW!

ASMu is hosting their annual banquet and will be selling tickets soon! The event will take place during Spring Quarter and is fiesta themed (Taqueria Santa Cruz will be catering). Tickets are $10 for MATEs/ $20 for non-MATEs, and will be sold in MATE 120, MATE 235, and MATE 483. ASI Elections Recruitment - Apply by Feb 23 - NEW!

ASI Student Government is looking for committed, compassionate students to run for the 2018–19 ASI Board of Directors and for ASI president! As the collective voice of the campus community and an integral part of Associated Students, Inc. (ASI), this body is committed to developing student leaders and strives to create positive contributions both on and off campus. CESAME (Center for Engineering, Science, and Mathematics Education) Opportunities - NEW!

CESAME is offering multiple programs to engage and teach elementary and middle school students subjects related to STEM. Here are some of the programs:

  • MOST (Mentors In Out Of School Time): Teach STEM-focused modules to students in an after school program at a local school. (Paid/Course Credit)
  • LBDL (Learn by Doing Lab): Engage visiting 3rd-8th grade students in hands-on labs on campus. (Course Credit)
  • TEAMS (Teacher Assistants in Mathematics and Science): Tutor or assist Math, Science, or AVID teachers in local middle school or high school classrooms. (Paid/Course Credit)

  • "Using Controversy to Discuss Diversity and Inclusion in the Classroom" | Feb 22 | Kennedy Library Rm, 209 | 12:00PM - 1 PM: Come join CTLT for their Faculty Showcase! This presentation features Dr. Elizabeth Folk from the Art Dept., who will be speaking on how to begin dialogues about identity, inclusion in the Art & Design classroom, as well as other disciplines. Pizza and salad will be served!

Innovation Quest 2018 – Apply by March 23New!

Have an idea that's been keeping you awake at night and been looking for some motivation to turn it into a reality? Join the growing community of Cal Poly students that used iQ as a springboard to turn a passion project into an entrepreneurial journey and took Learn By Doing to a whole new level.

People working on teams that need additional help will have an opportunity to present their project and recruit people. If you don't have an idea, but want to join a team, you'll have a chance to network with teams and tell them about how you can help them win this competition. Come stop by the information session and check out the flyer for more details!

Sustainability Task Force (STF) | Mondays | 6PM - 7PM | Bldg 26-104: STF is open to everyone and is a space to identify problems in EWB and collectively create solutions to improve our club. 

Tea Time | Mondays | 11AM - 12PM | Library by Fishbowls: Tea Time is a time to chat with the president and vice president about anything and everything. It’s basically open office hours and we’d love to see you! Look out for our EWB shirts/boxes of tea!

IMPACT | Tuesdays | 11AM - 12PM | Library 216Q (fishbowls): IMPACT organizes volunteering events that unite EWB members and fellow Cal Poly students with local nonprofits dedicated to the community EWB Cal Poly knows and loves.  

1st Officer Board Sit-in| Wednesday | 6PM - 7:30PM: Interested in taking a leadership role in EWB? If so, EWB invites you to sit in an officer board meeting so you can see how the club is run and if it is something you might be interested in doing! If you're interested, sign up here! Fulbright Workshop | March 8 | 11:10AM - 12PM | Bldg 52-E46 - NEW!

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program includes fully funded international opportunities for graduate study, research, creative arts practice, teaching assistantships in English, digital storytelling projects, public policy fellowships, and ethnomusicology research. Join us to learn about Fulbright awards for graduating seniors and graduate students. We will discuss the application and selection processes and provide advice on how to submit a competitive application. The workshop is open to all students and is best suited for juniors, seniors, and current grad students. SCHOLARSHIPS

 

The Sally Casanova Pre-Doctoral Fellowship – Apply by FEB 23

In 2017-18, the California Pre-Doctoral Program will award funds to approximately 73 juniors, seniors and graduate students in the CSU. These funds are designed to enable current students to explore and prepare to succeed in doctoral programs in their chosen field of study. Awards are based on competitive review of student applications and are given to students who demonstrate academic excellence while having experienced economic or educational disadvantage, as well as committed to a career in teaching and research at the college or university level. All matriculated students enrolled on a CSU campus are eligible to participate.

Please keep in mind that students graduating Spring 2018 will not be eligible for this award. Students must have a faculty mentor to apply for this program.  The student will work directly with the campus coordinator on the Cal Poly SLO campus, Dr. Richard Savage (rsavage@calpoly.edu), and their faculty mentor. Dr. Richard Savage will be able to give the student access to the online application.

 

The Materials Handling Education Foundation Scholarship - Apply by March 31 

The Material Handling Education Foundation, Inc. (www.mhefi.net) is an independent charitable organization established in 1976 with a mission to promote the study of material handling, logistics and supply chains by exposing students and educators to the industry through financial support. The Foundation will offer scholarship award opportunities to students who are committed to studying material handling, supply chain and logistics for the 2018/2019 academic term. Scholarship awards range from $1,500 to $6,000 and are made up of funds from the Foundation and the Howard Bernstein Industrial Distribution Scholarship Program.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is now accepting application for its Summer Research Program. College of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Central Florida (UCF) Ph.D. Opportunities - NEW!

UC MERCED MACES Graduate Recruitment

With the help of a $5 million award from NASA, UC Merced has established MACES (Merced nanomaterials Center for Energy and Sensing), a nexus for promoting functional nanomaterial-based research and education. MACES faculty members are looking for highly motivated students with strong academic performance to join us for Ph.D. graduate study. Students who participate in our program would benefit from multidisciplinary research training, guidance by two mentors, usually from multiple majors (sometimes even from NASA), and access to state-of-the-art facilities. Furthermore, students who are U.S. citizens will have an opportunity to participate in NASA internships by working at NASA Research Centers. STUDY ABROAD OPPORTUNITIES

This program achieves a global comparative approach to study abroad using a ship as its traveling campus and sailing to multiple ports around the world. Students take a full load of courses aboard the ship, which is equipped with classrooms, lecture halls, a library, cafeterias, study lounges, fitness center, swimming pool, and more. During each semester-long program, the ship stops at 10-12 ports around the world, allowing students to have a truly international and global opportunity that is incomparable to any other study abroad experience. UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES MUNICH

From Dr. Harding: Here's an interesting program for study overseas in Munich Germany. There are courses in Fracture & Fatigue and also Composite Materials that would definitely count toward Technical Electives in your MATE degree.

NSERC CREATE Quanta Program

The NSERC CREATE program, called Quanta (Quantum Nanotechnology Training in Alberta), is held jointly between the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary. This program is specifically designed for incoming graduate students that have an interest in developing the next generation of quantum technologies. Students can work with truly state-of-the-art equipment, such as dry dilution refrigerators, ultra-cold atom machines, Canada's best nanofabrication facilities, and a metropolitan fiber network. In addition to a rigorous academic education, graduate students will receive enhanced professional development training, to ensure that they are ready to excel in industry. Lehigh Microscopy School CourseS SUmmer 2018 

Lehigh Microscopy School is offering courses this coming summer from June 3-8. There will also be a limited number of half-tuition scholarships available for full-time graduate students attending the microscopy courses in 2018. Some of the courses include:
