Research Study Participation
Dear engineering student,
My name is John Chen and I am a professor in the mechanical engineering department here at Cal Poly. I am writing to ask for your participation in a research project that I am involved with. The research aims to learn about engineering students’ non-cognitive traits (i.e., traits not directly associated with knowledge acquisition or intelligence), their beliefs and behaviors, and how all of these contribute to student success.
The activity is in three parts, and each involves taking an online survey that takes approximately 35 min. to complete. You will be provided a $100 compensation in the form of Amazon.com gift cards if you complete all of the activities. Here is the timeline for the activities: If you agree to participate, you will be sent a link to an online survey to complete. Approximately two weeks later, we will ask you to complete another online survey, after which you will be sent (electronically) a $50 Amazon gift card. Near the end of this quarter, you will be sent a third and final link to complete the survey, after which you will receive the second $50 Amazon gift card. Again, each survey should take no more than 35 min. to complete.
If you are interested in participating, please follow the link below (it's legitimate, I promise, and not some phishing scheme) and sign up on this super-short, 30-sec sign-up sheet. A follow-up email will be sent to you from a research assistant (a fellow CP student) with the instructions for completing the first activity.
**Please do not invite others or forward this email to anyone. This activity is only available for selected student groups in the College of Engineering.**
