RFI Teaches Sustainable Engineering in Ecuador
This is a unique study abroad experience for those interested in sustainable engineering. Students are invited to work with the Regeneration Field Institute (RFI), a 70 acre regenerative agroforestry operation based in Ecuador. The RFI have been rebuilding infrastructure after a 7.8 earthquake hit Ecuador in 2016. What makes this work special is their use of bamboo as a carbon negative material that is also seismically sound. RFI hopes it will inspire environmentally-driven change around the world, and to do so, wants students to learn from local maestros about bamboo construction and agroforestry. The program will last 9 days, begins after the end of spring quarter, and you will help install a bamboo structure over the course of the program. If you are interested, there are Zoom sessions on February 8th (ID: 210 379 9311), February 13th (ID: 803 302 3159) and February 17th (ID: 837 7004 4735). All of these sessions begin at 6 PM. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to the campus reps, Emily (ehershbe@calpoly.edu) or Lucas (ljmval@gmail.com)!
