innovation quest competition | November 29 | 6pm - 7:30pm | nash family entrepreneurship lab (002-210)

The Cal Poly Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship's annual Innovation Quest Competition is kicking off this week. Join the ranks of Cal Poly's entrepreneurial alumni like the founders of iFixit, Passion Footwear, Grinds, Flume Technology and more who competed in this annual competition as students, and have since launched businesses that are reshaping the world we live in.  Participants will be pushed to start developing prototypes, and communicate the business potential of their innovations. $30,000 worth of prizes will be awarded to Cal Poly innovators!

VEX Robotics Competition |January 18-19 | ATL, Bonderson, & Engineering Plaza Areas

The Cal Poly Society of Women Engineers, along with San Luis Obispo High School, will host the California Central Coast VEX Robotics Competition. This year the competition gets more competitive and even larger with over 50 teams battling for a spot in the CA State Championships! Cal Poly will welcome teams to compete in this year's game, "Turning Point." Click here to watch the game video.
 
SWE is looking for volunteers to help out at this event. No experience is required. Click here to get involved!

NASa / Johnson space center

NASA / Johnson Space Center is seeking a materials engineer to be a vital part of operating the largest space station ever built. University of Nebraska-Lincoln summer research program

The University of Nebraska is now accepting applications for the University of Nebraska’s 2019 Summer Research Program. This 10-week residential summer research experience provides mentoring and research participation while allowing scholars to preview graduate school life at a Research1 university. Participants all receive competitive stipends, room and board, travel/transport, graduate school preparation workshops, social and networking activities, and more.
 
Online applications must be completed by March 1, 2019. Students historically underrepresented in graduate education and students from academic institutions where research programs are limited are especially encouraged to apply.

STUDY ABROAD OPPORTUNITIES

Engineering and business in china 2019

This study abroad program will provide multidisciplinary international team experience. International teams will be formed consisting of Cal Poly students and Chinese students from Zhejiang University of Technology (ZJUT). Students will take classes and conduct projects together with the intent of applying the knowledge they acquire to solve real-world problems. Through this experience, students will learn how to work in a team with different cultural backgrounds. They will gain problem-solving skills by conducting real world projects. They will also improve communication skills and develop leadership skills in a multi-cultural environment. It is expected that students will be ready to function in a global environment after this program.

As part of IME 400, students will travel and visit a wide variety of manufacturing companies in China including Volvo/Jili Auto Company, Jingshen M&E Co., Shining 3D Tech, and Xio-lift elevator/escalator Co.

Cultural excursions in Hangzhou and Shanghai are part of the program. Students will visit the Bund and the 100th floor of the Financial Center in Shanghai, and taste famous Nanxiang Steamed Bun (Baozi) at Yu Garden and have a nice buffet dinner at the Oriental Pearl Tower in Shanghai. They will visit West Lake of Hangzhou, a United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site.
