Our "hands-on" learning philosophy is woven throughout the curriculum.

Emphasis on engineering Many of the other materials programs that you'll evaluate are titled materials science and engineering and are associated with a graduate Ph.D. program. We distinguish ourselves by focusing on the applied side of materials science; the materials engineering.

A greater emphasis "hands-on" learning
Hands on valves This begins your freshman year with a year-long laboratory design sequence. In our program, about half of the time you spend in MatE major courses will be in a laboratory, working on a project with fellow students and faculty. As a comparison, you'll spend 10%-20% of your time in labs if you were to major in materials science and engineering at University of California institutions.
