In February, the Materials Engineering Student Societies (MESS) club organized a trip to San Francisco to attend the TMS Annual Meeting. About 28 MATE students attended the conference to listen to technical talks, network with professionals, and participate in student workshops and activities. The talks included Recycling, Biological Materials, Global Innovations in Materials and Technologies for Energy Harvesting, Global Innovations in Photovoltaics and Thermoelectrics, and Materials in Clean Power Systems. Several students also attended the Women in Science Breakfast Lecture.
An alum event organized by alum Scott Miner was held at Bucca di Beppo for a fun, family style dinner that left everyone stuffed. Students then headed off to the TMS student mixer and dominated the dance floor.
Other conference highlights included Steve Hawks receiving a scholarship from the TMS Structural Materials Division, and Rachel Schoeppner presenting a poster from her summer research work at WSU.
