Students and Faculty attend the Materials Research Society conference in San Francisco
Materials Engineering students Aaron Guerrero, Matt Lewis, Brian Stahl, and Matt Goebel attended the Spring meeting of the Materials Research Society (MRS) on March 24-29. The 4100 academics and industry professionals from around the globe attended an industry exhibit, 41 technical symposia, poster sessions, awards ceremonies, and related events. MRS hosted a student mixer where Cal Poly mingled with students from Cornell and Cal Tech, where they discussed and traded ideas about their research.
MRS provided opportunities for the students to work at places like the Career Center and the “Science is Art” exhibit in order to subsidize cost of attending the conference. All four students found the experience very valuable and plan on attending conferences in the future. Professors Kathy Chen and William Hughes also attended the conference. Chen gave an invited talk on "Learning Opportunities for Nanoscience and Engineering through a Materials Perspective."
