Small and growing
Currently, you will be one of only a handful of graduate students working for your advisor, receiving individual faculty guidance for your thesis. Students completing a masters degree with a specialization in materials can select specific study tracks that enable them to develop in-depth knowledge in specific areas of technology.

Get a B.S. and M.S. at the same time
If you're a Cal Poly student, you may be eligible to earn two degrees with a savings of 11 credit hours. Go to the section on 4+1.

Two paths available: "Traditional M.S." and "BMS (4+1)"
We have two paths to a M.S. degree. One is the traditional, for those who have finished their B.S. degree. The other is the 4+1, for current Cal Poly students who have completed less than 180 credit units.
