Ways alumni can help the Cal Poly MATE department
Visit local schools, your old high school, or your children's
school. The MATE outreach kit can be borrowed and contains all
sorts of items to make science cool. Contact Lisa Christensen
(lisa.Christensen@gmail.com)
or Kathy Chen (kcchen@calpoly.edu)
for more information.
The Jim Regan scholarship was established by James Regan, Mate
'68 and is earmarked for a Mate student working to support
him/herself in school.
Andrew O'Connor at Chevron hired Mike Leonard as a summer intern
to continue the strong MATE connection. Kevin Nibur recruited
MATEs for the Washington State University summer research program.
Digital Rockwell hardness tester donated by Andrew O'Connor at
Chevron is now heavily used in the MATE 215 introductory materials
laboratory.
Scott Miner (class of '95) gave a guest lecture about machining
to the freshmen and provided stock materials to build vacuum
systems. CTC United Defense performed all the machining as
per order of each design team. NDC routinely donates NiTi
samples for MATE labs and projects.
